The 38 sites of Nez Perce National Historical Park are scattered across the states of Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Montana and have been designated to commemorate the stories and history of the Nimiipuu and their interaction with explorers, fur traders, missionaries, soldiers, settlers, gold miners, and farmers who moved through or into the area.
Twenty-six are in North Central Idaho. A complete tour of the Idaho sites is about a 400-mile round trip, so you may want to select the segments that interest you specifically. See locations of these site on the Traveler's Map under Historical Sites
The Visitor Center is located in Spalding, 10 miles east of Lewiston (U.S. Hwy 95). A museum and film provide an orientation to the park. In the Center's museum, see an original peace medal, a ribbon given to the Nez Perce by members of the Lewis & Clark Expedition, and a variety of Nez Perce artifacts. The staff is available to answer questions. Nez Perce National Historical Park tells the story of a people who have occupied this land since time immemorial, and played an important role in the nation's development. This is a park about a people, for all people.
