Stites

Stites, Idaho
Region: Clearwater Region in North Central Idaho
County: Idaho
Location: 4 miles South of Kooskia on Hwy 13 or 22 miles North of Grangeville on Hwy 13

The City of Stites is a small, rural community located along the South Fork of the Clearwater River. State Highway 13, the Northwest Passage Scenic Byway and All American Road, runs through Stites – connecting the City to Kooskia (4 miles to the north), and Grangeville (22 miles to the southwest).

The community of Stites looks back upon a history which includes the Nimiipuu (Nez Perce Tribe), Lewis and Clark, gold seekers, loggers, cowboys, and entrepreneurs. At the turn of the 20th Century, Stites was the terminus for the Northern Pacific railroad and the Elk City Wagon Road. Stites provided a transportation hub for the upper Clearwater gold country, and Camas Prairie farmers and ranchers. Today, the community provides a focal point for historic adventure and outdoor recreation.
