The Salmon River of No Return, runs through the town of Riggins which is the whitewater capital of Idaho! From the depths of the canyons with roller coaster whitewater rapids and big sandy beaches, to the 9,300-ft. Seven Devils Mountains making up the highest peaks in Hells Canyon - recreational opportunities are around every corner!
If whitewater is what beckons you, the Salmon River rushes through this country to thrill and excite both residents and tourists. The longest free-flowing river in the lower 48 states, the Salmon River winds its way through and between the River of No Return Wilderness and the Gospel Hump Wilderness areas.
Canyon Country is also home to the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area and the awesome Seven Devils Mountains. The access road from the top ends just below Heavens Gate. From this vista point one can look into both the Salmon River Canyon and the famed Hells Canyon, the two deepest canyons in North America.
The only driving access road into Hells Canyon is located just outside of White Bird. This 17 mile journey will end at Pittsburg Landing. From here you can launch your boat, disembark your raft or hike into the depths of the canyon.
