This report comes from Amy Sinclair at Exodus - gives you a glimpse of the fishing activity on the river - should've been there.....
Greetings from Riggins! This is the November 8th to November 14th fishing report from the Salmon River.
During the week I celebrated my birthday and as a present I went on an overnight fishing trip, by jet boat, to Mackay Bar Ranch located at the confluence of the South Fork and Main Salmon Rivers. What a trip; fishing the wilderness section of the Salmon River, spending the night at Mackay Bar (40 miles upriver of Riggins), eating Andrea’s (the owner) grandmothers famous chocolate cake and then waking up on the river and getting those South Fork holes first thing in the morning. I thought perhaps the 36” native that I landed while on this trip, with jet boat fishing guide Scott Warden, was this week’s biggest fish caught. However upon my return I found out that I was upped by Jim Nixon and Mike Brown, both of Oakdale California, fishing with drift boat guide Shane Harper. On Saturday they landed a 38” native taking this week’s biggest fish caught title. Congratulations boys!
The fishing continued to stay awesome for the week; although the weekend slowed in the upriver section while the downriver section remained hot. From November 8th to 14th we had 40 angler’s fish and they hooked into 177 fish landing 130 of them. That makes a hooked average of 4.43 fish per person per day and a catch average of 3.25 fish per person per day.
Throughout the week the river held in the mid to upper 4000 CFS range and water temperature was in the low 40’s. We had a pleasant week of weather with rain towards the end of the week and a very cold weekend that brought snow to the mountain tops. As of this morning water level is 4430 CFS and water temperature is 38 degrees. The Riggins weather forecasted for the week ahead of us is calling for sunny and blustery conditions today and tomorrow with a moisture system moving in Tuesday night and slight chances of rain for the remainder of the week. Daytime temperatures this week should be in the upper 40’s to low 50’s and nights and early mornings will be in the mid to upper 30’s. Water levels and water temperatures are showing they will hold steady this week.
