Salmon River Exodus Fish Report Nov 15-21

Posted by: Regional Tourism Coordinator --(Nov 24, 2009 )

This report comes from Amy Sinclair at Exodus in Riggins - gives you an idea about fishing conditions - it's not to late to get in on the great fishing!

Happy Thanksgiving from Riggins, this is the November 15th to November 21st steelhead fishing report from the Salmon River.

This week’s biggest fish, caught by Exodus guest Lindsay Campbell from Boise, was a big 33” hatchery fish. Lindsay, fishing with husband Chris for his birthday and who also caught a whopper, was fishing with drift boat fishing guide, Brent Sawyer. Congratulations Lindsay. And Exodus guest, Jeff Clifford from Boise, having fished with drift boat guide Brent Sawyer on October 31st is still leading the Riggins Steelhead Fishing Derby with his big hatchery fish measuring 33.5”.

As of this morning the water flow is 4680 CFS and has been holding at that level for 48 hours. The river forecast is predicting the water flow staying level for the week ahead of us. The river is crystal clear and water temperature is 36 degrees and has been fluctuating between 36-38 degrees the last few days. Our week of weather has been mostly cloudy and blustery but the moisture predicted did not show up until late in the week. The week ahead is predicting rain today and then clearing with cooler temperatures for the remainder of the week. Expect nights and early mornings in the low 30’s and afternoon temperatures to reach the mid 40’s.

With water temperatures dropping, the fish are slowing down and starting to drop into the deep slow pools. Deep diving dark metallic plugs, the famous truck and trailer and drifting bait are all working great and we are still seeing good catch results. This week’s averages are: hook up average 2.61 per person per day and catch average 1.95 per person per day.

We offer our charter steelhead fishing trips by drift boat or jet boat based on your fishing party size and trips include experienced guides, lunch, snacks, beverages and all fishing equipment. For more information or to book your guided steelhead fishing trip contact our office at 1-800-992-3484 or email us at riverescape@frontier.com.

We look forward to fishing with you on the Salmon River this 2009-2010 Steelhead Fishing Season during one of the best steelhead runs recorded.

From our family to yours have a very safe and happy Thanksgiving and Holiday Season.
