Salmon River Exodus Steelhead Report Nov 29-Dec 6

Posted by: Regional Tourism Coordinator --(Dec 7, 2009 )

This report comes from Amy Sinclair at Exodus on the Salmon River...

Greetings from Riggins! This is the November 29th to December 6th steelhead fishing report from the Salmon River. This will be my last report until the winter fishing picks up in late January or early February. If you miss the reports or just want to talk fish you can always call or email me.

This week’s biggest fish, caught by Exodus guest Richard Later from Boise, was a big beautiful 35.5” native fish. Richard was fishing with drift boat fishing guide, Norm Klobetanz on Tuesday December 1st. Congratulations Richard…I guess we know why that hand was itching!

And big CONGRATULATIONS goes to Exodus guests Jeff Clifford of Boise and Jim Nixon of Oakdale Ca. These boys are currently holding 1st and 2nd places in the Riggins Steelhead Fishing Derby which began October 1st and ends March 31st. Way to go boys and thanks for making Exodus look good!

As of this morning water flow is 3140 CFS and water temperature is 32 degrees. Beginning Friday we experienced flow ice and Saturday morning we awoke to eddy ice as well as flow ice in the river. Yesterday I noticed an ice bridge had formed just above Island Bar with another one just above Spring Bar. Fishing is temporarily suspended until this passes and based on weather predictions for the week ahead of us I expect we are at least a week to 10 days out before we see any changes. If you are anxious to fish in the next 6-7 weeks please contact me for updated river conditions. Otherwise remember the next prime fishing for the 2009-2010 steelhead season will be the winter/early spring fishing which historically is from the end of January to early March and should be an extension of the great fishing we had this fall.

As we zip up the 2009 year we reflect on the fun we have had sharing the Salmon River with each of you. This has been a truly fabulous year and we are very thankful to all of you. From our family to yours we wish you a very safe and happy Holiday Season.
